Lincolnshire Police have been having reports of doorstep scams - How to keep yourself safe.

Please be aware that Lincolnshire Police have been receiving more reports of a doorstep scam in the area.

A group of persons in a white van with various decals and phone numbers written on, are cold calling at properties offering to pressure wash roof tops and carry out roofing/building work for extortionate amounts of money. They are described as being very insistent and are not offering a legitimate service. Follow these guidelines to stay safe:

1. Always check a callers identity. If you are not happy about their identity, do not let them into your house under any circumstances.

2. Never leave your front door open/unlocked and unattended, so a second individual can enter without your knowledge.

3. Take time to consider your options and research costs from other providers. If in doubt contact your local Trading Standards.

4. If you feel pressured by any cold caller, have the confidence to be firm and say NO.

5. Legitimate businesses do not tend to call door to door.

6. Never pay for goods or services you have not received.

7. A legitimate company will give you a written quotation and allow for a cooling off period.

If you feel frightened or intimidated, contact the Police on 101, or in an emergency dial 999.

"NO COLD CALLER" stickers are available from your local Police Station to display in your doors/windows.
