I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Theft - (shoplifting, personal, other), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Five people were charged with a total of 27 counts of shop theft and associated matters following a weekend of targeted action in Skegness.
Targeting prolific shop theft offenders is important because a small number of individuals are often responsible for a significant amount of retail crime across our communities. Their actions don't just affect businesses financially, they can have a real impact on shop workers, customers, and the overall feeling of safety in our town centres. When repeat offenders are identified and dealt with, it helps reduce crime, supports local businesses, and creates safer, more welcoming places for people to live, work, and shop.
🗣️ Sergeant Billy Spence, of Skegness Community Patrol, said: "Many prolific offenders are also linked to wider criminality. Dealing with these individuals often requires a considerable amount of police time and resources, involving repeated incidents, investigations, safeguarding concerns, and partnership work with other agencies. By focusing efforts on those causing the greatest harm, Response and Neighbourhood Policing teams can make the most effective use of available resources, reduce repeat offending, and deliver the greatest benefit to local businesses and communities.
"Ultimately, this targeted approach is about protecting people, supporting local trade, and ensuring our neighbourhoods remain safe, vibrant, and welcoming for everyone."
Jake Hill, 30, of Castleton Boulevard, Skegness, has been charged with 12 counts of shop theft, one of handling stolen goods and one of theft of electrical and other items from a person:
On 11 July, having stolen deodorant and razors to the value of £110, belonging to Savers, Skegness.
On 11 July, having stolen four Head and Shoulders bottles of shampoo to the value of £20, belonging to Boots, Skegness.
On 17 July, having stolen meat and washing pods, to the value of £90, belonging to Heron Foods, Skegness.
On 14 July, having stolen coffee and deodorant, to the value of £40, belonging to Heron Foods, Skegness.
On 9 July, having stolen meat and cheese, to the value of £25, belonging to Heron Foods, Skegness.
On 15 July, having stolen meat and cheese, to the value of £150, belonging to Coop, Skegness.
On 13 July, having stolen sandwiches, of a value unknown, belonging to Greggs, Skegness.
On 15 July, having stolen Red Bull and baguettes, to the value of £20, belonging to Greggs, Skegness.
On 9 July, having stolen deodorant and body spray, to the value of £123, belonging to Savers, Skegness.
On 16 July, having stolen electrical items and vodka, to the value of £202, belonging to B&M Retail Ltd, Skegness.
On 18 July, having stolen chocolate, to the value of £112, belonging to Home Bargains, Skegness.
On 16 July, having stolen alcohol, to the value of £65, belonging to Aldi, Skegness.
On 16 July, having dishonestly undertook or assisted in the retention, removal, disposal or realisation of stolen goods, namely Dewalt Tools and Box, to the value of £390, knowing or believing the them to be stolen goods.
On 4 July, having stolen a Samsung tablet, fuel, and other fuel and business cards, of an unknown value
He was remanded into custody and is due to appear at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court today (20 July).
Chloe Barnes, 31, of no fixed address has been charged with six counts of shop theft:
On 11July at B&M Skegness, stole three packs of washing pods, of a value unknown, belonging to B & M Retail Ltd.
On 10 July at B&M Skegness, stole three packs of washing pods, of a value unknown, belonging to B & M Retail Ltd.
On 10 July at B&M Skegness, stole three packs of washing pods, of a value unknown, belonging to B & M Retail Ltd.
On 15 July at Coop, Roman Bank, Skegness, stole a quantity of cheese, of a value unknown, belonging to Coop.
On 16 July at Heron Foods, Ingoldmells, stole beef, steak and wash pods, of a value unknown, belonging to Heron Foods.
On 16 July at Aldi, Skegness, stole two bottles of vodka of a value unknown, belonging to Aldi.
She has been released on conditional bail not to enter any retail shop in Skegness other than Lidl and Skegness Pharmacy. She is due to appear at Boston Magistrates’ Court on 3 August.
Levi Marsden, 24, of Dorothy Avenue, Skegness was charged with four offences:
On 10 July having broken a bail condition, namely, not to enter any retail premises in Skegness other than Cost Cutter on Lincoln Road or Skegness Pharmacy, Lumley Road.
On 10 July stole, Ariel wash pods belonging B&M Retail Ltd, Skegness to a value unknown.
On 14 July, stole Yankee Candles to the value of £30, belonging to Savers, Lumley Road, Skegness
On 14 July having broken a bail condition, namely, not to enter any retail premises in Skegness other than Cost Cutter on Lincoln Road or Skegness Pharmacy, Lumley Road.
He is due to appear at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court today (20 July).
Neill Chamberlain 40, of no fixed address, faced two charges:
Having been arrested on 16 July for breaking a bail condition which is to report to Skegness Police station at specified times.
Having stolen sandwiches to the value of £7, belonging to Palmers, North Parade, Skegness on 15 July.
Chamberlain appeared at Lincoln Magistrates’ court (20 July) where he was released on bail.
Nathan Jarvis, 40, of Skegness Road, Ingoldmells was charged with shop theft after it was reported that on 23 March, at B&M, Skegness, he stole bottles of washing detergent belonging to B&M Retail Ltd, Skegness to the value of £56.
He has been released on bail and is due to appear at Boston Magistrates’ court on 3 August.
