We have had a report of a “Nottingham Knocker” in the Lea area.

What are Nottingham Knockers?
Nottingham Knockers are typically young individuals who travel in teams, often originating from the Nottingham area, carrying large holdall bags filled with household items such as cleaning products, small clothing items, and kitchenware, which they sell at inflated prices. They often claim to be ex-convicts on rehabilitation schemes and may show fake ID cards to appear legitimate, though these cards have no legal validity.

Nottingham Knockers are not just salespeople; they are often linked to criminal activity. They may observe homes for vulnerabilities, noting details to sell to professional burglars. There are documented cases where households that purchased from them experienced burglaries shortly afterward. Some have even become violent, forcing entry to obtain money. Teams often maintain lists rating homes based on perceived success, indicating a systematic approach to targeting victims.

Safety Advice:

Use caution when approached by door-to-door sellers. Residents should verify identities through a spyhole or side window, ask for official identification, and avoid opening the door to unknown individuals. It is advised not to engage with them or make purchases, especially in cash, to reduce the risk of exploitation or burglary.
