Message From Inspector 1144 Head |

Due to current resourcing pressures and exceptionally high demand, there are unfortunately delays in officers attending some non-urgent incidents. We are also aware of longer-than-usual waiting times for members of the public contacting us via our 101 service.
We recognise the frustration this may cause and are grateful to our communities for their continued patience and understanding during this challenging period.
Despite these delays, it remains important that incidents are reported to us so that we can assess and respond appropriately. We would therefore encourage anyone requiring police assistance to continue reporting matters. Where an incident is non-urgent, you may consider reporting it online through our website.
I would like to begin by providing an update regarding the burglary at Gainsborough Trading Cards, which occurred on Sunday 9th August. One man was arrested yesterday in connection with the offence and remains in custody. The investigation has progressed significantly over the last nine days, with officers and staff carrying out a substantial amount of work behind the scenes. Whilst much of this activity is understandably not visible to the wider community, it has contributed greatly to the positive progress made so far.
Significant Incidents
Suspicious Death, Grey Street, Gainsborough Officers were called to an address on Grey Street, Gainsborough at 10.50am on Thursday 14th August following the attendance of EMAS. Sadly, a 52-year-old man had died at the address. His family have been informed. An investigation into the man’s death is ongoing. A post-mortem has confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death. A file will be completed for the coroner.
Deliberate Fires and Arson Investigations We have unfortunately seen an increase in reports of reckless and deliberate fires across the area. Given the national warnings and extensive media coverage regarding the heightened fire risk caused by the current conditions, it is disappointing that a small number of individuals continue to engage in behaviour that endangers others and diverts valuable Fire and Rescue Service resources away from genuine emergencies. Officers are currently investigating several incidents in Gainsborough involving dry grass being deliberately set alight, as well as a more serious incident in Tealby, Market Rasen, on Monday 17th August, in which a derelict house and barn were set on fire. Investigations remain ongoing, and I hope to provide a further update in the coming days.
Robbery, Co-op Store, Morton On Monday 17th August, officers responded to reports of a robbery at the Co-op store on Front Street, Morton. It was reported that two males wearing balaclavas had entered the store and stolen the cash till. Within 40 minutes of the initial report, officers had identified and forced entry to an address nearby, where two males were arrested in connection with the offence. Officers also recovered the stolen till and cash. A third male present at the address was arrested in relation to unrelated outstanding matters. This incident highlights the value of local knowledge, proactive policing, and the commitment shown by officers every day. Much of this work receives little public attention, despite the significant impact it has on keeping our communities safe. Once the investigation has concluded, I will be able to provide an update regarding any charges and court outcomes.
Burglary in Progress, Binbrook Not to be outdone by their colleagues in Gainsborough, officers in the Market Rasen area responded to reports of a burglary in progress at a commercial premises in Binbrook. With assistance from members of the public, officers were able to locate three males within the compound who were allegedly attempting to steal motor vehicles. All three individuals were arrested and remain in custody whilst enquiries continue. A further update will be provided once the investigation has concluded.
Assault, King Street, Market Rasen Officers also attended reports of an assault in progress on King Street, Market Rasen. Upon arrival, the suspect attempted to leave the area on a bicycle. Officers immediately pursued the individual and, through the use of authorised tactical options, successfully brought the pursuit to a safe conclusion and detained the suspect. The arrest was highly visible and may have appeared dramatic to those who witnessed it due to both the tactics required and the behaviour displayed by the suspect during the incident. The investigation remains ongoing, and a further update will be provided at the appropriate time.
Thank you for your continued support, engagement, and cooperation. The information provided by residents plays a vital role in helping us identify offenders, protect vulnerable people, and keep our communities safe. Whilst current demand remains exceptionally high, officers across Gainsborough and Market Rasen continue to work tirelessly to respond to incidents, investigate crime, and achieve positive outcomes for victims.
