I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Road Safety, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. 🚓 Community Speed Check Update 🚓
On 3rd and 4th October 2026, PCSO Felstead-Solley conducted speed enforcement checks at Foxby Lane, Lea Road and Ropery Road, Gainsborough, following concerns raised regarding vehicle speeds in these areas.
Results
📍 Foxby Lane
2 vehicles stopped 1 vehicle recorded at 37mph in a 30mph zone 1 vehicle recorded at 35mph in a 30mph zone
📍 Lea Road
3 vehicles stopped 3 vehicles recorded at 35mph in a 30mph zone
📍 Ropery Road
No vehicles were stopped. Unfortunately, the speed checks at this location had to be cut short as the attending PCSO was required to respond to a high-priority incident.
Speed enforcement activity will continue at random locations and at varying times across the area.
While some drivers may view speeds of 35-38mph in a 30mph zone as only a small increase, research shows that even a few extra miles per hour can have devastating consequences. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) states that the stopping distance at 35mph is over 6 metres longer than at 30mph, which can be the difference between stopping safely and being involved in a collision.
Research highlighted by Brake, the road safety charity, also shows that a pedestrian struck at 30mph has around a 1 in 5 chance of being killed, increasing to approximately 1 in 3 at 35mph.
Department for Transport figures show that in 2025, there were 1,538 road fatalities and almost 30,000 people killed or seriously injured on Great Britain's roads.
Please remember that speed limits are there to protect everyone using our roads, including pedestrians, cyclists, and other motorists.
Please drive safely and slow down. 🚗💙
